When our beloved Matthew Lyskawa was involved in a sudden and devastating boating accident, our family’s world changed in an instant. What began as an ordinary day turned into a life-altering tragedy, leaving Matthew with a severe traumatic brain injury. Since that moment, he has been fighting bravely in the intensive care unit, beginning a long, uncertain, and challenging journey toward recovery.

Matthew is young, strong, and incredibly courageous. Those qualities define who he is—and they are the same qualities carrying him through this unimaginable battle. Each day in the ICU brings new challenges, but also new hope, as Matthew continues to show remarkable resilience in the face of overwhelming odds.
Anyone who knows Matthew understands the kind of person he is. He is gentle, intelligent, driven, and deeply thoughtful. He has always approached life with purpose and passion. Fishing, working on vehicles, weight training, and baseball were not just hobbies to him; they were expressions of his love for life and his determination to be his best self. Matthew poured his heart into everything he did, and that same heart and determination are now guiding him through this fight.
Matthew recently achieved a major milestone, graduating from the University at Buffalo, Class of 2025, with a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science. He is also a proud graduate of Williamsville North, Class of 2021. His future was bright and full of promise—filled with dreams, goals, and plans he worked tirelessly to achieve. While the road ahead is uncertain, we hold onto hope that, with time, care, and unwavering support, Matthew can reclaim the life he worked so hard to build.
At this time, Matthew’s full prognosis is still unfolding. What we do know is that recovery will require extensive medical care, specialized rehabilitation, and long-term support. As a family, our sole focus is being by his side—advocating for him, encouraging him, and ensuring he has every possible opportunity to heal and recover.
We have been overwhelmed by the outpouring of love, prayers, and support from friends, family, and the community. Every message, every prayer, and every act of kindness reminds us that Matthew is not fighting this battle alone. We truly believe he can feel your love and hear your prayers, and we ask that you please continue to keep him in your thoughts.
Whether through donations, sharing this message, or offering words of encouragement, every gesture helps ease the immense financial burden of medical and recovery-related expenses and allows our family to focus on what matters most—Matthew’s recovery.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for standing with us during this incredibly difficult time. Your love, faith, and support mean more than words can ever express. Matthew is fighting with everything he has, and surrounded by hope and community, we believe in his strength to keep going.
