With great sorrow and heavy hearts, we remember Diane Murphy of Kingston, Massachusetts, a treasured bartender and long-time pillar of Carmela’s Restaurant. For nearly 18 years, Diane was far more than a familiar face behind the bar—she was the heart of Carmela’s, a trusted friend, and a constant presence whose warmth touched everyone who walked through the door. Her passing is felt deeply by her family, friends, coworkers, and the countless patrons whose lives she brightened over the years.

Diane began working behind the bar at Carmela’s almost two decades ago and quickly became a fixture, admired for her skill, professionalism, and unmistakable charm. While she crafted excellent drinks—many of them signature favorites—it was her ability to make people feel welcome that truly set her apart. Every guest was greeted with a smile, engaging conversation, and her outgoing, radiant personality. Diane had a rare gift for turning regular customers into lifelong friends and coworkers into family.
Over the years, Diane played an essential role in shaping the culture of Carmela’s. She trained and mentored countless new staff members, passing on not just technical expertise, but the values of care, pride, and connection that defined the restaurant. Her dedication never wavered, even during the most challenging times. From the devastating fire that nearly closed Carmela’s doors to the uncertainty and strain of the COVID years, Diane stood by the restaurant she loved, offering strength, loyalty, and quiet leadership that inspired everyone around her.
To her colleagues, Diane was a source of friendship, laughter, and unwavering support. She brought light to long shifts and comfort during difficult days, always knowing how to lift spirits—whether through a well-timed joke, a heartfelt story, or her genuine concern for others. Her absence will be deeply felt, especially the loss of her familiar smile and infectious laugh that once filled the room.
As we remember Diane Murphy, we honor a life defined by compassion, dedication, and meaningful connection. She leaves behind a lasting legacy of love, mentorship, and friendship that will live on in the hearts of her coworkers and the many guests fortunate enough to know her.
During this painful time, our thoughts and prayers are with Diane’s family, friends, and the entire Carmela’s staff. Though she is no longer with us, we find comfort in imagining her at peace—watching over us with that familiar smile, perhaps with a generous glass of J. Lohr Chardonnay in hand.
Rest in peace, Diane Murphy.
You will always be part of the Carmela’s family—deeply missed and forever loved.
